Veteran's Day ~ November 11th, 2024

 by Danna Shirley

I attended the Veteran's Day Celebration today in Bartlett TN. It was very well attended and very patriotic. Some veterans wore their complete uniforms and so many others wore their ballcaps that represented their branch of service.

I wore a WWII Veteran cap to honor my father's service in the Army Air Corp, later called the Air Force. I put anchors on his cap to honor my husband's service in the Navy. The band played the theme song from each of the military branches:

Air Force ~ Wild Blue Yonder ~ written 1939

Army ~ The Army Goes Rolling Along ~ written 1918, new lyrics 1956

Navy  ~ Anchors Aweigh, first sung publicly 1906

Marines ~ The Halls of Montezuma, written late 1860s

Coast Guard ~ Always Ready, written 1927

I realized we don't have a theme song for our newest branch of service, Space Force. Someone needs to get on that right away.

This was an especially moving Veteran's Day for me due to our recent election on November 5th, 2024. It was a clean sweep for the Republicans who took back the Presidency, the Senate, and increased the majority in the House.

I pray for a smooth, quiet, and peaceful transition. I will continue to pray for our federal and local governments and that America will be even greater than in its 248 years of existence.
