PRAISE and WORSHIP

By Danna Shirley
This msg given at the Combined Service May 5, 1996 at the Hario Chapel, Japan.

PRAISE  Each word has its own meaning and each has scripture representing that style of praise. Praise expresses not only what God does for us but Who He is, recognizing His glory.
PRAISE with THANKSGIVING and REJOICING – Psalm 100:1-2, 4
PRAISE with CLAPPING and SHOUTING – Psalm 47:1
PRAISE with DANCING -- Psalm 30:11, 149:3, 150:4
PRAISE with STANDING – Psalm 134:1
PRAISE that GLORIFIES GOD  Psalm 50:23
PRAISE with LIPS – Psalm 63:3
PRAISE with UPLIFTED HANDS – Psalm 63:4, 119:48, 134:2, 141:2, 143:6
PRAISE with BROTHERLY LOVE – Heb 13:1
PRAISE with EVERY BREATH and EVERY INSTRUMENT – Psalm 150

WORSHIP To bow low, stoop as an act of submission and reverence; to pay homage.
WORSHIP with BENDED KNEE, KNEELING – Psalm 95:6
WORSHIP as we ENTER IN – Psalm 42:1

The Word also tells us to WAIT and SEEK the Lord – Lam 3:25-26. Sometimes the move of the Spirit is very gentle and peaceful. The Lord speaks in a still small voice and we must quiet ourselves to hear him. Whatever way we approach God, God is pleased!

God knows our heart and the motives of our heart even when we don’t.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.” (Jer 17:9-10)

He knows when we worship Him with sincerity of heart.
He knows when pride rises up and we will not allow ourselves to express love for Him.
He knows when we come before Him with clean hands and a pure heart and a right attitude.

Some worship unashamedly.
Some worship with a gentle, quiet spirit.
Some worship with tears.
Some don’t show their emotions outwardly but are inwardly touched.

God is a gentleman. He will not make us do anything against our will but He does desire our praise, for that is where He is enthroned (Psalm 22:3).

If we don’t praise Him, the very stones will cry out and take our place (Luke 19:35-40).
