"For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns." (Jeremiah 4:3)
In the area of agriculture, fallow ground means the land has gone unplanted, unreaped, and unharvested . . . it has become unfruitful. After the land has been allowed to rest, it is then cultivated to reap a harvest that becomes more fruitful than before.
"Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made." (Genesis 2:3)
"It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed." (Exodus 31:17)
Rest! God tells us to follow His example to work six days and on the seventh day to rest. If we apply this same principle to our lives, we will see more and better fruit. If we will let our fallow ground go untouched one day a week, we will have a more productive six days than if we'd worked seven.
