BEAUTIFUL FEET

"For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?  And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written:  ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!’”  (Rom 10:13-15)

Do we sometimes feel that our comings and goings throughout the day or week have taken us someplace where we didn’t wish to go?  Like having to get a flat tire fixed, or having to take that favorite dress to the cleaners because of the spaghetti sauce stain, or running back to the store a second time because you forgot the dressing for the tossed salad.  If we could look at every little annoyance as a divine appointment for our “beautiful feet,” we might view these as blessed opportunities that the Lord is opening up to us to proclaim the Good News.
I’m reminded of an incident that happened to me several years ago.  We had purchased new carpet and had spent three days with our household turned upside down to accommodate the installation.  We’d only had the carpet about three months when it began to look ten years old.  I called the store and the same installer came out to look it over.
Yes, the carpet was faulty and needed replacing.  Oh, the aggravation of having to face all of that upheaval again.  We chose another, better quality of carpet and scheduled the task again.  For some reason I didn’t seem to be too upset.  I was even surprised at my own “cool and calmness” over the whole situation.
Ah, the Lord knew what He was going to do, though.  In observing my composure the installer commented that he had expected to face a very irate housewife.  In attempting to address his fears, I began to witness the Lord’s peace in my life.  We sat down and had coffee together while I shared the wonder of the Lord.  He was fascinated!
I don’t know what came from the conversation, but the Lord knows.  Ah, beautiful feet!  Wherever we go we take them with us . . . always be ready to share the Gospel of Peace as well!
