MOZZIE

by Danna Shirley
The following short story was submitted in the Creative Writing Class at Bartlett Senior Center, Bartlett, TN. The assignment was to use the random words below (or any form thereof) and write something interesting.

donut ~ puppy ~ ambitious ~ breathe ~ honest
respect ~ hugs ~ love ~ loyalty ~ daytime

Mozzie is a daytime puppy. He’s up and ready to go for a walk at the crack of dawn. How ambitious one little puppy can be while bouncing down the side walk sniffing and curious over every little thing. To be honest, I can hardly catch my breath for trying to keep up with him.

We pass Mrs. Jerrell’s garden and he has to stop and smell the roses. We pass Mr. Gupp’s barber shop and he puts his little paws up to peek through the window. We pass the Donut Shop, or shall I say we try to pass the donut shop but the smells are too inviting. Other people pass and bend down to pet him but he’s loyal only to me.

After our daily walk we hit the couch for love and hugs and a good nap. We definitely respect each other’s naptime.
